Restaurant Review: Holy Grill, Nungambakkam

A few friends and I were making plans to meet up for a barbeque lunch, and out of the blue one of them says I’m game but only if it’s a vegetarian only place. Thus, Holy Grill!

Holy Grill is situated in the foodie’s paradise that is KNK road (Wallace garden 3rd street). It is a bit inside, take the left at CCD, then the following right, and keep going. It will come up on your right. We’d made a reservation, which I would advice. The restaurant was clean with a nice décor. They also have sufficient parking and valet.

All that aside, food is the most important thing, isn’t it? When we went we were given a menu listing the day’s buffet. The best thing about a buffet is that the dilemma of choosing what you want to eat is taken away from you, and you get to try everything on the menu!

We started with a tomato soup, which was nothing to write about. Then came the starters. There are two kinds of starters they serve – on the grill and from the kitchen.

Starters on the grill were paneer tikka, sweetcorn, baby potatoes, exotic vegetables, pineapple and mushroom. The paneer was soft and delicious. The best of the lot was the pineapple. Blew my Mind!

Starters from the kitchen were a crispy baby corn and veg manchurian. I definitely am a fan of the veg manchurian and could have made a complete meal of that one dish.

The main course was an assortment of rotis and naans, biryani and noodles. The chilli butter noodles were delicious. Rotis were soft and accompanied by a dal makhani, paneer, palak veg curry. Honestly, I don’t like anything with palak that’s not palak paneer. But the paneer and dal were good enough.

Desserts were self-service. We had a choice of ice creams, gulab jamuns, malpua etc. Both mango and vanilla ice creams were creamy and absolutely delicious.

They also have a few salads, again self-service, but we skipped that section entirely.

Overall, I would say it’s a good place, even if you are not a strict vegetarian. The quantity of food served was definitely worth the amount of money charged. It doesn’t compromise on quality either. Their menu is rotated so it will be a new experience with every visit.

My Favourites – Grilled Pineapple, Veg Manchurian and the Chilli Butter Noodles.

Would definitely visit again and would recommend to others as well.

Sadly, since we were quite busy making merry and stuffing out faces with all the food, I didn’t take photographs.
