Another romance hitting the shelves now. And this one is an absolute delight. This is the first of Amelia Grey‘s works I have read and I must add that I will be adding a few more to my TBR.
The Earl Next Door, is literally about the earl next door. Adeline, Lady Wake, moves into a new home and her neighbour, Lord Lyonwood. Young and widowed, Adeline and her two friends, Brina and Julia, begin a girls school. The three friends are bound by sorrow. They lost their husbands and want to afford a means of livelihood to those girls who lost their male relatives in the same tragedy. The boarding school is right behind Lady Wake’s residence. One can only imagine what chaos reigns in Lyonwood’s life after the girls move in.
In typical fashion, the plot is an ‘all’s well that end’s well one. But it does take its own sweet time getting there. There are some things that are unusual with The Earl Next Door though. The usual historical romances do not feature a widowed countess set on making reforms. The young countess and her dashing neighbour set the pages on fire. There is the touch of hope when a sorely abused soul finds solace and love in another human being. It was altogether a very sweet romance. I will definitely be waiting for the other two books in the series as well.
