Book Review – The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

Well, it is the weekend and I decided to binge read. So, I began the weekend with a ‘meh’ sorta book. Honestly, it was terrible! Then I picked up Christina Lauren‘s The Unhoneymooners. Both books belong to the same genre and yet they were completely opposite. One was a dreadful read and the other was The Unhoneymooners.

Let’s start with the plot. There are twin sisters – Ami and Olive. They are identical twins but with their own personalities and identities. Ami is getting married and how! Basically, she is getting married for free. She has won sweepstakes and giveaways, and every aspect of her wedding is taken care of. Olive, on the other hand, is down on her luck. She lost her job, is unlucky in love and her bridesmaid dress is horrid. After reading Ami’s approach to planning her wedding I went and created a new twitter account just to take part in giveaways. If that is not motivation, I don’t know what is.

Anyway, the wedding goes on beautifully and then the feast goes downhill. With everyone falling ill due to an infection, only two people remain standing. Olive and her arch nemesis, the groom’s big brother, Ethan.

Since the honeymoon is also a freebie won, they have to take it or lose it. Finally, it is up to Olive and Ethan to go on the trip to Maui. A two-week-long trip, as a married couple on their honeymoon. Oh, the ups and downs they have while on this trip are hilarious.

Ethan and Olive become a couple in real life and when they come back home, the reality is harsh. Things turn sour and the novel really gets interesting here on. I felt a range of emotions whilst reading this part. While the earlier part of The Unhoneymooners was all about fun and had me laughing out, the later 20% was quite emotional. It was a pleasant surprise because it came across as a light read and then took a serious turn.

But all is well, that ends well. The Unhoneymooners is a fabulous book that will delight readers. It is a refreshing take on misfortune, good luck and love.

You will not be disappointed.
